Self sketch -May 21

self-sketch-by Yukari Iwasaki, inner child playground

After a several months break, I strummed on my guitar a week ago and remembered how I use to play a different song after song. Then my friend who was in a band told me how he plays the same song over and over again; at times focusing on one part of the song repetitively to master it.

I simply draw whatever I see, whatever I feel like – often without much conscious focus on the subject.  Tonight, I watched a documentary about a famous Japanese artist, Katsushika Hokusai who created a number of series of artwork and was an obsessive artist who drew everyday.

Repetition is important to hone your skill.

With this mind set, I am attempting to sketch the same subject for a week – and the subject is myself.

This is the first piece- a quizzical look on myself as I start the journey of conscious focus on improving the sketching skills.

Cheers to letting go,
